Medication Administration Class

This training gives employees an overview of medication administration, which includes:

  • How to read and complete Medication Administration Record (MAR)
  • How to read bubble packs, including hands-on experience
  • Time limited medications
  • How to administer inhalers, eye/ear drops, sublingual medication, topical treatments
  • PRN/Psychotropic medication use, protocols and reporting
  • Managing medication errors and discrepancies including policies and report writing
  • Using appointment sheets
  • Treatment cycle
Employees are required to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment and to re-certify every 3 years.


Medication Administration Home Study

Further to the Med Admin Class, the home study covers the following topics:

  • General information
  • Staff responsibility
  • Medication knowledge
  • Effects of medication
  • Oral, sublingual and buccal medication administration
  • Special medication procedures
  • Special issues in medication administration
  • Medication and behavior changes

Employees are required to obtain certification within the first 3 months of employment and to re-certify every 3 years.
